Rep. Buchanan's 2011 financial disclosure form now available for your review

Rep. Vern Buchanan's 2011 financial disclosure report is now available for your review here.

Buchanan, who in 2010 was listed as the seventh-wealthiest member of Congress, filed a 116-page report detailing his various assets and liabilities. The 2011 report, which became available to the public today, covers his holdings as of the end of 2010.

Determining Buchanan's exact wealth isn't possible from the report, as members of Congress are required only to list their holdings in broad ranges. In 2010, OpenSecrets.org determined that Buchanan's wealth ranged from minus-$-69,434,661 to $366,180,982, for an average of $148,373,160 -- the seventh highest in Congress.

As for the latest report, we'll add up the numbers as soon as possible and share what we find.

  1. When he first ran a few years ago, he was worth, according to the Herald, $7 million. He donated $5 million to his campaign fund. The next time he ran it stated he was worth 8 million. I did not know that polititions were paid that much

  2. One of the slimiest used car salesman in Congress today is our own Vern Buchanan. But don't take my word for it; you can read all about his deceitful career climb to the top in Wikipedia.

Here are a couple of excerpts:
"Buchanan and American Speedy were defendants in a string of lawsuits during the late 1980s and early 1990s by franchisees and master franchisees, who said they were not making the money that Buchanan had said they could expect. After the (Buchanan's) bankruptcy, he was accused by a creditors committee of taking excessive compensation ...Buchanan owns two reinsurance companies — Jamat Reinsurance Co. and Buchanan Reinsurance Co., in Turks and Caicos, and part of the Bermuda reinsurance company Greater Atlantic Insurance Co. The three companies offer extended warranty policies to car buyers. Buchanan invests some of the proceeds from his reinsurance companies in real estate developments in the Bahamas...The Internal Revenue Service has stepped up efforts in recent years to investigate offshore reinsurance companies, and has urged Congress to change laws that help people benefit from these offshore tax havens."

He is also one of CREW's (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) most corrupt.

Here is another interesting story, which raises more questions than it answers about Mr. Buchanan's Campaign finances and how he strong arms contributors, hey isn't that extortion?
